Glennoo Shoot game bird packages for September 2010 to January 2011

Glennoo Shoot is 20,000 acres of woodland, mountain and valleys South east of Fivemiletown. We specialize in walked up shooting for 1 -5 people, shooting between 10 and 50 birds per day. Our mountain partridge are superb and our woodcock are plentiful.
We can offer per day packages or season long packages known as the “Free to Roam” syndicates. We put down 1000 game birds in 2009 and this year we will be putting down 3,000 pheasant and partridge.

Standard Packages
Pay per bird walked up days

Pay per day is available for partridge, pheasant, woodcock and snipe as individual species or a mixed bag depending on the time of year. We can cater from 1 to 5 guns per party and we shoot fresh ground on each outing to allow birds ample time to settle down again after a shoot day. Partridge are on the mountain with pheasants in the valley bottom cover consisting of rush, bracken and gorse hedge. The basic package allows each gun to shoot approximately 5 birds. Guns may take home a brace of birds per day. A 30% booking fee is payable on agreement of dates with the balance to be paid on completion of the day’s shooting. From a total of 800 birds released into the pay per day area in 2009 we are doubling the size of the area to give us more ground to rest the birds and we are releasing 2400 birds. As always we welcome individuals who just wish to potter about with their own dog and shoot a few birds. We have plenty of good cover on our margins which hold pheasant , partridge and woodcock so if you do just want a day on your own please contact us and we can give you a price depending on what you want to shoot.

Pay per bird walked up packages

We are going to base two simple packages on a team of 5 guns

  • Package #1: Shoot 25-30 game birds
  • Package #2: Shoot 40-50 game birds
Other little packages

We can also offer woodcock and snipe days.  We will have some mop up days in January for small groups of 4 or less to challenge some of the, by then, rather wild game birds. There will be a bag limit on pheasants & partridge but not on woodcock and snipe. Finally we have mapped out a few areas where less able shooters can move about or stand without the terrain being a hassle for them and if this is of interest to anyone do please enquire with the keeper about these facilities.

Dog trials and training sessions

Our ground may be hired for trialling or training at the standard rate above.  We would expect the gun dog club running the trial or training session to provide insurance for any injury to the dogs and to bring along competent shooters again with their own insurance eg BASC, CAI or suchlike. We can offer special rates to setter and HPR dog clubs on the mountain with partridge. Please contact Damian to discuss.

Free to roam syndicates

Our very popular Free to Roam syndicates are being expanded for the 2010-11 season and reflect requests we have had from our guests in 2009. We are offering 4 types of syndicate this coming season. If you are interested in a visit please arrange this directly with Damian. We will ask those interested to sign up and pay an initial deposit of 30% to help offset some of the set up costs we incur each season. The balance will be a further 30% payable on 1st July with the remaining 40% payable on 31st August 2010. Syndicates may be made up of individuals, small groups or indeed one entire group of shooting friends. We do not impose syndicate shooting days or count the number of days each gun visits. If the syndicate wishes to impose their own guidelines that is fine but our role is to keeper the birds, control vermin, feed straw rides and dog in wandering pheasants on a daily basis. We will require each member to record birds shot and recovered/lost for each day so we can monitor stock requirements. Woodcock and snipe and any wild duck are deemed a natural harvest on these areas.

The Brown Hill syndicate will have the exclusive woodcock shooting of the Brown Hill and surrounding forestry areas plus the bogs above the Cleen River which always hold plenty of snipe. This is a specialist woodcock syndicate enjoying the very best area for woodcock within the entire Glennoo Shoot estate. This syndicate will also have two free days on the main partridge and pheasant areas shooting a normal 30 bird day. The syndicate group will number 6 guns only.

Craig’s syndicate includes Ashbane lough, which is fed for wild duck and the surrounding mountain area has notable falls of snipe with decent woodcock shooting on the forest margins and lanes. There will be 250 game birds released into the area as well. The partridge did very well on the mountain part of this syndicate in 2009. There is a new reduced limit of 12 guns on this syndicate.

Foy’ssyndicate will feature a large area for woodcock hunting comprising miles of forest tracks and wide margins and long fire breaks and rides to explore. There will be 250 game birds released into the area as well. The partridge area is in a natural bowl high in the mountain whilst the pheasants will be released on an old farm system with lots of ditches, hedges and rushes, a very varied and exciting hunting offer. There is a limit of 12 guns on this new syndicate.

The “Primrose” syndicate area has no released birds but there is a new duck pond dug out for wild duck and it will be fed nightly from June. The surrounding area has good snipe and woodcock in season and there are some wild pheasants in the area. Limited to 5 guns. SOLD OUT

General Free to Roam syndicate guidelines:

  • FTR members may retain what they shoot
  • FTR member who do not have a trained retrieving dog may make arrangements with the keeper to collect & use a kennel dog during the season with a suitable gratuity directly to the keeper as this is not part of the shoot package.
  • All FTR members will receive colour maps, ID cards and car “permits” by 31st August at the latest.
  • All members should notify the keeper prior to their visit. We will publish shoot guidelines on insurance, cartridge type, shoot etiquette and rules etc before the start of the season.
Deer Stalking

We will have 3 Free to Roam for the 2010-11 season with a limit of 4 deer per person but with unlimited hunting opportunities. We cannot guarantee you 4 deer though as that’s up to the individual as it takes, on average, up to 6 outings, unaccompanied, to secure a deer (GB statistics). Alongside this we will have accompanied morning, evening or all day packages for deer stalking limited to 15 beasts so it’s on a first come basis. Our stalker is a DSC level 2 Accredited Witness. We also can offer simulated training in the art of deer stalking plus rifle shooting training by NRA approved coaches.

Contact Damian to discuss deer related packages. Please note you must have DSC1 to stalk on Glennoo!
